Vegemite
Well, here I am, back on the road. Computer all fixed and shiny new again.
This weekend just passed was great! We left home at an ungodly early hour and set out to go visit Veg up in Manchester. We sailed through town in record time- not too many people about at 5:30 a.m on a Saturday- and jumped onto the M1 highway. It was light but not bright, a little smidge of mist to keep things cool, and lots of empty road. Vrooooom.
There's nothing nicer than when your car is running smoothly and there aren't any spooners on the road to
ruin the enjoyment and zen like state that a good, long drive induces.
We got there around 11, as promised. We only got lost in the last 2 miles...as usual the
signposting was crap. I don't know why... surely it can't really be that hard to put a sign up thats bigger than a postcard? Maybe it's a British thing.
Anyhoo, it was damn fine to see Veg again! For a change he's fatter than me! mwaahahahahaha!!
I met his kids for the first time, tiny little creatures but definitely blessed with their dad's sense of humour. Great little people :)
Saturday developed from a small bbq with just the handful of us into a full blown friends & family get together, which was cool. Much beer was consumed, along with vast quantities of dead chickens and cow. We only migrated indoors when the midges decided that 15 warm bodies were too good an opportunity to pass up.
Sunday's drive home went just as smoothly... took the opportunity presented by the new M6 Toll road to open the engine up a bit.
But hey, I drive a Suzuki jeep- "opening it up" equates to pushing it up to around 85 mph.. Still , it was fun overtaking Mr MidlifeCrisis in his shiny new Z4 and Johnny Flash in his porsche, even if they did get their revenge about 1/2 mile later on.
Plus, the weather was sunny all the way, so we had the roof off. Magic!
My only regret is not wearing a hat.. today I look like a cherry lollipop... white body & a red head.
Still, a small price to pay to see girlfriends & children trapped in the sedans driving past staring at us wistfully, wishing their dad/husband/ boyfriend had a kick ass
jeep...
