'ere we go, 'ere we go!

Hey ho, so 2007 has arrived! Huzzah!!

Sorry forthe delay in posts, things just kind of got away from me over December. I didn't quite realise how prevalent dinners, boozy lunches and general partying was in the banking industry.Everyone finds an excuse to take everyone else out somewhere! It rocks :) I think I've put on about 2 - 3kg's over the last month, from the lack of exercise and rich food. The odd gallon of ale doesn't help either I reckon.

Anyhoo, it was a good festive season and a cracking Christmas.

This year we actually had more than just the two of us at the table- a total of 8 festive mouths were being fed from our cauldron this year. I am sincerely pleased to say that not one person left the table less than absolutely, positively stuffed to the gills, as it should be! And there was still enough left for gammon & cauliflower sandwiches for days afterwards. All good!

New years was it's usual quiet self. We spent some quality sofa time with a bottle of Gordon's and some bitter lemon and a bucket of snacky stuff and drifted through the 'magic moment' in a gin soaked haze. We did watch the fireworks at the Eye though- impressive stuff. I shudder to think who's footing the bill for it, but it was certainly pretty to watch... but , from the look of the rather hemmed-in and squashed looking crowd I can honestly say I'm glad I watched it from the comfort of my couch.

So, here we are, firmly in the grips of January. The weather is still disappointingly mild (not even touched 0 C yet), the pace is picking up at work and everyone is gazing at their waistline, sobbing and swearing never to a) drink again or b) eat another pasty.

On a different note, we've now booked our summer holiday- we're off to sunny Greece in August! A friend of the Mrs is getting married on Zakynthos, and we've accepted the invitation. We've booked flights already, and our hotel in Athens for the first couple of days... we're working hard to hammer out a general itinerary for ourselves, but I don't think you can go wrong with a meditteranean summer holiday.

After a couple of days in Athens doing the touristy thing, we'll probably rent a car and tear off to visit Thermopylae, something I've always wanted to do. Then we're southward bound to run amok in the Peloponnese (sp?) for a few days before hopping over to the islands. I can't wait!

The downside is, I'm going to have to work damn hard now to get myself in any kind of shape for the beach (don't want Greenpeace hippies rolling me back into the waves)- I don't want to be just another podgy, white bellied tourista crisping to a nice crayfish colour under the Hellenic sun.
